The principal of this school presented two problems: uneven AI literacy across the faculty, and a sense that instructional energy across the school had quietly worn down. Together, with a lead teacher, we built a six-session series delivered over four months.
The teachers ranged from those who saw AI as overhyped to others already experimenting on their own. I designed each session around three parts: reflection, a focused skill, and hands-on work applying that skill to real, upcoming lessons. The lead teacher tracked how things were going between sessions and we fed that back into how I shaped what came next.
The heart of the program was a simple reframe. AI wasn’t there to replace anything in the classroom. It was there to give teachers back some of the time and creative energy that burnout quietly takes away. Teachers left each session with something they could use in their own classroom the next week, not just an idea to think about later.

This engagement started with a simple request: help backing up digital records after a two-week online outage. Talking through the organization’s workflow surfaced something bigger. Staff had never received formal training on data security, even though their work touched data covered by laws like FERPA, HIPAA, the NY SHIELD Act, and NYC Local Law 245.
The first session built the case for why this mattered before introducing a single rule. Staff mapped whose data they handle and where it lives, then worked through real exposure scenarios in small groups, from a breached online tool to a visitor left alone near case files.
The second session turned that awareness into practice: password habits, multi-factor authentication, and spotting phishing by checking a sender’s address and a link before trusting either, closing with one direct commitment each person could act on right away.
